University Mascot

Department: University Relations and Marketing
Location: Joplin, MO

General Statement of Job

Represent MSSU and its core mission & values in a positive manner through community appearances and at MSSU campus events. Promote the Campus and increase school spirit.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duties:

  • Perform as "Roary the Lion" Mascot at community appearances and MSSU on-campus events.
  • Maintain an outgoing and creative persona to engage spectators.
  • Commit entirely to the assigned scheduled opportunities for "Roary" to appear at on-campus and off-campus events.
  • Ensure "Roary" costume is well cared for and returned to URM after each performance.
  • Assist in creating routines for promotional entertainment.
  • Commit to appearances at campus and community events to promote school spirit.
  • Help with promotional initiatives on social media.
  • Distribute MSSU promotional items designed to help increase school spirit and brand awareness.
  • Work events throughout the year, including summer if applicable, for an hourly wage.

Education, Experience, and Licenses

  • High school graduate or GED required.
  • Nights and weekend work required.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
